Encounter wild and novel places through the pages…

Hey everyone, I’m Heather Dickinson, and I am an artist, educator, and amateur explorer. I started this site in February 2024 without much of a plan beyond sharing my love for our natural world through artistic study in situ, but like most things I get myself into, it has ballooned into it’s own unique expression — an online zibaldone or commonplace book full of sketches both realist and fantastical, poetry, fiction, and other creative rambles.

Every ink mark and brush stroke tells a story….

The Somewhat Feral Artist, in her natural habitats...

How you can support more art and expeditions:

Most of what I post will be free. Like, 70 to 80%.

That remaining 20-30% of new content will be behind a nominal paywall because this Rather Feral Artist likes cookies and tea and new drawing sticks now and again.

If you love what you see here, please consider signing up for a $6/month subscription plan. It’s like buying me a fancy coffee and berry-flavored scone once a month to let me know you enjoy the content. Only, you’ll also get access to video drawing lessons, meditative/ASMR-style drawing videos, content from my future book, everything in the archives, and so much more. It’s a win-win.

Supporting this site with a subscription helps me keep making art, keep exploring wilderness areas, and keep pursuing my goals as a professional artist and art educator.

If a monthly subscription or patronage is not your style, you may still leave me a tip.

Commissions are: OPEN

I do work in traditional and digital media. Traditional media I enjoy working with includes oil pastel, watercolor/gouache, acrylic, and charcoal. I began working in digital formats (Infinite Painter) in May 2025, and it has quickly become a favorite tool.

Preferred genres of art include botanical, floral, landscape, and fantasy/sci-fi. Perusing my archives can give you a good idea of where my artistic interests and strengths lie.

Please send inquiries via DM.

You may purchase merchandise and prints of existing work via Fine Art America.

As always,
